Green Drinks

John Anderson will speak (at 7pm) on the developing Bradford Power initiative, a bold and well-researched plan for a range of  renewable energy generation across the district. There will be time for questions, discussion and of course the usual free-ranging Green Drinks networking too. We will also have someone from Bradford Council's Environment and Climate Change Unit coming. Its shaping up to be a cracking event and we hope to see you there!

Commissioning environment work in Bradford District 2011/12

Bradford Council’s Community Funding Unit (CFU) has requested Bradford Environment Forum (BEF) to update the environmental needs analysis for the district; this will then be used to assess how the CFU money designated annually for community focused environmental work will be allocated in 2012 onwards. Currently this stands at £54,881, with possible reduction next year.

Guest speaker at BD3 Garden Club

On Wednesday 6th April the BD3 Garden Club will have a guest speaker from Northern Fruit Group coming to give a talk (and bring specimens) and answer questions on growing fruit in containers.  The event is held in St Clement's Church, Barkerend Rd, BD3 9DF. (The church is on the junction with Barkerend Rd, Gilpin St and Byron Street). The Club is free and runs from 7pm til 8.15pm.  Donations for the speaker will be given to the charity Little Hearts Matter, at the request of the speaker.

The River Aire Trust Public Meeting

A public meeting is to be held to discuss the formation of a Rivers Trust for the River Aire, the Trust to be registered in the near future as a Charity Limited by Guarantee.

The main objectives of the meeting will be to explain the purpose of a Rivers Trust, to invite questions and comments, to establish who is interested in the Trust and its objectives and to seek nominations from individuals who are interested in becoming trustees or from groups who wish to see themselves represented by a trustee.

The Equality Act 2010

This 2 hour seminar will look at the new Equality Act
which in itself encompasses 9 separate laws and more
than 100 regulations to consolidate areas of
discrimination into one piece of legislation. Most provisions
are now law and some are still being considered.There are
also 9 ‘protected characteristics’ that are identified within
the Act.Areas of discriminatory practices do not have any
ceilings and compensatory awards can be high if you do
not get things correct when dealing with these areas.This

The BEF AGM will take place at Belle Vue Girls School, Thorn Lane, Bingley Road, Bradford, BD9 6NA, incorporating a visit to Stoney Ridge Plantation.

The plantation is owned by Hallmark Cards and the visit will showcase partnership working in action between businesses, schools and the third sector.
